Sputniko! is a multi-media artist and filmmaker creating works that explore themes of technology, identity, society, and their intersections. Her work has been exhibited at the MoMA, Centre-Pompidou Metz, V&A, the Cooper Hewitt, and the Mori Art Museum, and she was awarded VOGUE Japan Woman of the Year in 2013. Sputniko! taught at the MIT Media Lab as an assistant professor and was the director of Design Fiction Group from 2013 to 2017. She was an associate professor of Design at the Tokyo University of Arts until March 2025. Sputniko! was selected as a TED Fellow and gave her TED Fellow talk in TED 2019. She was also named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and moderated sessions at Davos 2020. Her works are included in the permanent collections of museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), M+ Museum (Hong Kong) and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (Japan).
