Yuri Okina

PROFILE

Yuri Okina graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Keio University in 1982 and went on to earn a master’s degree and a PhD in economics from Keio University as well. She worked at the Bank of Japan before moving to the Japan Research Institute in 1992 and assuming her current role as president in 2018.

She served as an Industrial Revitalization Committee member at the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan from 2003 to 2007, a member of the Science Council of Japan from 2005 to 2014, and a special visiting professor at Keio University.

Ms. Okina has also chaired the Healthcare Working Group of the Regulatory Reform Council, chaired the "Choosing Our Future 2.0" discussion group, and served on the All-Generation Social Security Review Council. She currently chairs the Government Tax System Research Council and serves on the Council for the Realization of New Capitalism and the Financial System Council of the Financial Services Agency.

Her areas of interest include financial systems, social security, and economic policy. She has authored several books, including "Financial Crisis and Prudential Policy" (Nihon Keizai Shimbun Publishing).
