Sayuri Daimon

PROFILE
Upon graduating from Sophia University, Sayuri Daimon joined The Japan Times in 1991. After working as a political and economics reporter in the news department, she was named domestic news division manager in 2006, managing editor and executive operating officer in 2013, and was the first female head of the editorial department. She became an independent journalist in September 2020. Currently, Ms. Daimon is involved in editing the Japanese edition of Business Insider Japan, an American economic magazine, and JStories, a Japanese/English publication about SDGs. She is a regular commentator on Japan TV's information program, DayDay Monday, and a part-time lecturer at Tokyo Women's University. She is also serializing "The World and Japan Interpreted from the Media of Sayuri Daimon" on President Woman Online.
In 2000, Daimon won the Nieman fellowship at Harvard University to study journalism and American politics. In 2005, she stayed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, researching “Women in Saudi Arabia” as a fellow at King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies. In 2016, she received the “Japan Women Award (Leadership & Innovation)'' from Forbes Japan. She is the author of “The Japan Times Hododesuku-hatsu, gurobarushakai-wo-ikiru josei-no-tameno johoryoku (From The Japan Times newsdesk: Information gathering-power for global women)’’ published by The Japan Times, and “Harvard-de-katarareru Sekai Senryaku (Diplomatic Strategies Discussed at Harvard.)”
