Midori Tago

President, Cosmopia Inc.

Ms. Tago graduated with a major in Japanese from the School of Letters, Arts and Science of Waseda University in 1983. During her studies, she formed "The Cosmos," a team of female science major students who wanted to explore science and technology in a simplified manner. The team's activities afforded her an opportunity to work with leading companies, which made her realize there was no place for women to work. Upon graduation, she established a science production company, Cosmopia Inc., and still serves as President. Cosmopia employs sensible women possessing scientific knowledge, and produces comprehensive projects to educate the public on state-of-the-art technology that is useful to women. Based on its corporate philosophy of supporting women who want to continue their work and broaden their professions, the company also sends out temporary staff and utilizes networks of home-based workers. Currently, the company employs about 250 workers, most of whom are women, in various positions.

In 1996, Tago-san opened the Cosmopia Computer School in Minami Aoyama, Tokyo and teamed up with the NHK Culture Center. The school runs computer classes commissioned by local municipalities in central Tokyo and the vicinity.
They also created and now operate a science site for kids "Kagakkies," and publish books that simplify science and technology, such as the "Kids Series: Why?" [󒍁F2] (Mates Publishing), "Easy PC Series: You Can Start Today" (SCC Publishing), "PC for 55-year-olds" and "Easy PC Introduction Book"(Gijutsu Hyoronsha).
