After joining NEC in 1989, Miwa Momma worked as a package development engineer for the Semiconductor Group. From 1996 she represented NEC at EIAJ, (now known as JEITA, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association), the body responsible for the standardization of cutting-edge small packages. In 1998, she was appointed Japan's representative at the International Electrotechnical Commission and helped establish the Japanese standards as the global standards. After leaving NEC in October 2000, she joined the Microelectronics Product Department of Sumitomo 3M to market 3M flexible circuit boards. In April 2003, she was named manager.
