Keiko Itakura
Head of Itakura Cooking School
Ms. Keiko Itakura studied directly under Yukitaka Hiyama, a medical doctor and former assistant professor at Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University. She then conducted her own research in China and Taiwan before establishing the first-ever cooking schools in Japan to offer Yakuzen (cooking using Chinese traditional medicines) cooking courses in 1992. Believing that "food makes the person" and working to popularize Yakuzen and to educate children about food, she has lectured throughout the country while continuing to develop Yakuzen dishes, write about Yakuzen and develop Yakuzen restaurants. In addition to articles on the benefits of Yakuzen in numerous cooking and Chinese medicine magazines, she wrote "Yakuzen at home", published in 1998. She advised Kanebo on its "Weiyou" oriental herbal supplement and on their home page development. She lectures at the Asahi Culture Center, the Nishi-Ikuta Campus of Japan Women's University, teaches cooking at the Tokyo Gas Cooking School, writes articles on healthy food for Sports Nippon Shimbun, and appears on CS Nippon's "Easy Yakuzen - Keiko's Miracle Cooking." She is married, and the mother of three children.
