PROFILE
Akira Matsumoto, born in Kyoto in 1947, graduated with a master’s degree from the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University in 1972 and then joined Itochu Corporation. After serving as director and general manager of sales at Century Medical, Inc., an Itochu subsidiary, in 1993 he went to work for Johnson & Johnson Medical K.K. (now Johnson & Johnson K.K.）, where he served as president and, later, as executive advisor. Mr. Matsumoto was appointed Chairman & CEO of Calbee Inc. in June 2009. Under his leadership, Calbee achieved eight consecutive years of growth in sales and profits and was successfully listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Mr. Matsumoto became COO of RIZAP Group Inc. in June 2018 and then moved on to be a director in January 2019.
