Marin Minamiya
the youngest person to complete the "Explorer's Grand Slam"
PROFILE
Born December, 1996
Although she was born in Japan, she left Japan at the age of one due to her father’s job. Her family moved countries almost every 4 years, and she moved schools almost every 2 years. This certainly made her a more globally minded individual, however the experience of growing up in more than five cultures surrounded by technology, made her wonder about her identity. She started to climb mountains and through climbing, she gradually learned more about what made her ‘human’.
While she was still in high school, she decided to make her dream - to climb Mt. Everest, come true. Through her journey, she not only climbed Mt. Everest, but became the Youngest person in Japan to climb an 8000m peak, the Youngest woman in the world to climb Mt. Manaslu (8163 m), the Youngest Japanese person to have climb Mt. Everest (8850 m), the Youngest Asian person to complete the Seven Summits, and Youngest person in the world to complete the Explorer's Grand Slam.
