Yoshie Nakatani
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Paraguay
PROFILE
Yoshie Nakatani has served in her current position since September 2020. Upon graduated from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in 1983 with a degree in Spanish, Ms. Nakatani joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She completed the International Course of the Diplomatic Academy of Spain and has worked in a variety of fields, including Latin American policy, U.S.-Japan trade negotiations, public relations, Official Development Assistance (ODA), economic treaty negotiations with Europe, international maritime resource management, and as Director of the Tokyo Center of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). She
Ms. Nakatani has worked at embassies in Spain, Panama, the United States, Mexico, and Paraguay. She has extensive experience in sole parenting (called "one-operation" in Japanese) both in Japan and abroad. She has lectured on a variety of topics to diverse audiences ranging from elementary school students to business executives. She is the founder and advisor of the Association of Japanese Women in Paraguay, which aims to increase the presence, empowerment, and networking of women of Japanese descent in Paraguay. Her family includes her husband, a former naval officer and Japanese Ambassador to Djibouti, and two daughters.
