PROFILE

Ph.D., Kanazawa University in 1997. Doctor of Science. After working as a part-time lecturer at the University of Yamanashi, a postdoctoral fellow at Tokyo Institute of Technology and Macquarie University, Australia, and a JSPS Overseas Research Fellow, she joined the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) in 2003. She served as group leader on eight drilling expeditions (14 months in total) in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans aboard the US scientific drilling vessel (D/V) "JOIDES Resolution" and the Japanese scientific D/V "CHIKYU." She has been aboard the "Shinkai 6500" submersible and domestic and international research vessels more than 20 times (for more than 25 months), some including as a chief scientist. She experienced crossing the Pacific Ocean from the port of Hachinohe to the port of Valparaiso in Chile, South America, for two months. Since joining JAMSTEC, she has been struggling to achieve the ‘Mantle Drilling' the first-ever in human history. A board of directors of the Japan Geoscience Union, a director of the Japan Association of Mineralogical Society, a delegate of the Geological Society of Japan, a specially appointed associate member of the Science Council of Japan, a visiting associate professor at Kanazawa University, and a part-time lecturer at Sophia University.
