Soichi Noguchi
Astronaut
PROFILE
Born in Yokohama, Kanagawa. Dr. Noguchi completed the Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo. Doctor (Academic). He was selected as an astronaut candidate in 1996. In 2005, he boarded the Space Shuttle Discovery and became the first Japanese astronaut to perform Extravehicular Activities (EVAs) on the International Space Station (ISS). In 2009, he became the first Japanese left-seater for the Russian Soyuz spacecraft and stayed in space for six months. In 2014, he was elected president of the Association of Space Explorers (ASE). In 2020, he will be the first non-American to board the SpaceX spacecraft Crew Dragon. He has logged a total of 177 days in space.
