Hiroko Ishii graduated from Sophia University's faculty of Foreign Languages. While still at school, she completed an upper level course at Simul International Academy, the specialized interpretation agency. She started her career at TBS, interpreting for the bilingual news program. She has worked as a freelance interpreter for almost sixteen years. An excellent interpreter for conference-level simultaneous interpretation in a large number of specialized fields including medicine and computers, her enunciation and clear diction keep her in constant demand.
She has served as a clinical psychologist at National Children Hospital for more than 10 years. She has also graduated from school of Playback theatre in New York, which is a special improvisational theatre method.
She is the mother of two daughters, three dogs and one cat.
