Kenji Isezaki
Professor, Peace and Conflict Studies, Graduate School of Area and Culture Studies, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
Born in 1957, Professor Isezaki has extensive field experience in conflict resolution as an NGO and UN worker. When Japan became the lead country for the DDR (disarmament, demobilization and reintegration) program for Afghanistan SSR (security sector reform), he directed the DDR with the support of the UN Afghanistan Assistance Mission and successfully disarmed 60,000 soldiers of the former Afghan military forces in two years.
Professor Isezaki has also served as Councilor of the Japan Center for Conflict Prevention and Chief of the DDR (Disarmament, Demobilization & Reintegration) Coordination Section for the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL); District Administrator of Cova Lima for the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor (UNTAET); and representative of the Japanese government to the DDR special committee by the Department of Peacekeeping Operations at United Nations Secretariat in New York.
