Tetsuya Ando
Chief Representative, Fathering Japan (NPO)
Mr. Ando was born in 1962.. After holding nine different jobs, including stints at a publisher, a book store, and an IT company, he established Fathering Japan in 2006. His aspiration is to increase the number of fathers who can laugh and enjoy raising kids, work, and life. He travels all over Japan to conduct seminars for companies and the general public and to promote the "Papa's picture book project" for fathers to read to their children.
He has also served as president of the PTA at his children's primary school and chair of the after-school club for children. He is active in his community, under the motto of "enjoy being a father."
He is a member of: the Cabinet Office's "Starting from scratch to tackle the aging population problem" committee; the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare's committee for enlightened understanding of balance between work and child rearing by males; and the Tokyo Metropolitan Group to Support Child Rearing.
Mr. Ando has authored several books, including "Papa no Gokui: Shigoto mo Ikuji mo Tanoshimu Ikikata (The secrets to fathering: A lifestyle to enjoy both work and raising children)" (Japan Broadcast Publishing) and "PaPa's Ehon 33 (Papa's 33 picture books)" (Shogakukan). He also co-authored "Papa Rule: Anatano Kazoku wo 101-bai Happy ni Suru Hon (Papas' rules: A book that will make your family 101 times happier)" (Godo-shuppan) and "Ehon de Asobo! (Let's play with picture books)" (Shogakukan) and translated the picture book "Ted" (Bunkeido). He is a regular on the NHK radio R1 program "Radio Vitamin" and writes a column titled "Papa Nyumon (Introductory Level)" in the Yomiuri Shimbun. He is the father of two boys and a girl.
