Yoshiko Shinohara

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Ms. Shinohara graduated from Takagi Commercial High School in 1953 and gained employment with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. In 1966 Ms. Shinohara traveled to Switzerland and Britain to learn languages and gain secretarial skills. In 1971 she traveled to Australia, where she was employed as a secretary to the President of P.A.S.A. Inc., a local marketing company. She resigned in 1973 to return to Japan where she utilized her knowledge of temporary staff services in Australia to establish her own staffing agency, Tempstaff Co., Ltd.
In 2004 Ms. Shinohara was appointed a member of the Counselors' Conference of the Ministry of Finance. Ms. Shinohara has received numerous domestic and international awards, including the Flower Award of the 14th Economic Awards in 1989, the 1993 Nikkei Venture of the Year Award, Women Entrepreneurs Division, and since 2000 she has been named as one of The Most Powerful Women in Business (CNN/FORTUNE) for seven consecutive years. She has been recently awarded the 9th Kigyoka Prize (Kigyoka Club).
