Motoshige Itoh
Professor, Graduate School of Economics, Faculty of Economics, The University of Tokyo
After graduating from the Faculty of Economics at Tokyo University, Mr. Ito earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Rochester. He worked as an associate professor in the Faculty of Economics at Tokyo Metropolitan University and then a professor in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Tokyo before becoming a professor in the Graduate School of Economics at the University of Tokyo in 1996.
Mr. Ito's area of specialty is international economics. He has been a member of the "Economic Strategies Committee" set up by the Obuchi Cabinet and the "IT Strategies Committee" established by the Mori Cabinet. Known as the "Walking Economist", Mr. Ito spends a lot of time at business sites and analyzes and explains economics from the perspective of living economics. He is also a well-known media figure and acts as a commentator on TV Tokyo's "World Business Satellite".
